What is a Personal Shopper?

A personal shopper is someone who helps you out with your shopping. Large department stores have personal shoppers who can be in certain departments. This might sound like a job where you get paid to shop, but there is a lot more work involved than you might think.

To become a personal shopper there is usually someone who recommends you because of the assistance you gave them.  As one of these shoppers you must be knowledgeable in the products you work with.  Recommending something to someone who spends a lot of money on it and is not satisfied with your choice, could ruin your reputation.

There are fashion houses that hire personal shoppers who then become familiar with frequent customers. Keeping these customers as return patrons is the goal.  These personal shoppers must know how to deal with customers who are demanding and  they must also be familiar with the newest season’s clothing.  If you have an area of expertise, then you can be a personal shopper for that product alone. It can be fashion or a collectible that collectors will pay you to find for them because they do not have the time.  This job can be rewarding but is also more work than it looks like.
