Choose Your Personal Style

Before you shop for new clothes, stop. In building your personal style, you need to know a few things about yourself first.

  • Know your colors. What look best on you? Are you a fall or winter? Do you look good in pastels or brights.
  • Discover your best body traits and plan to play them up.
  • Identify your problem areas. Are you skinny, pear shaped, or athletic?
  • What is your budget? What can you afford to spend?
  • What is your lifestyle? If you are a stay at home mom, you may not want to spend money on business trousers.
  • Accept your size. Getting the right size is half the fashion battle.

Make a list of everything you have and everything you thing you need. When you shop, start by filling in the gaps in your basic wardrobe. Every woman needs the essentials like dark jeans, black pants, white shirt, boots, and well-fitting undergarmets. Once you have the basics covered, you can add in special pieces like blouses, flats, or a fancy wrap dress.

Once you have your “must have” pieces, don’t be afraid to play around and pair different thinsg together. Keep everything hanging separately so you can mix and match.

Besides clothes and womens shoes, your personal style can also be reflected by your makeup, hair style and color, and skin care.
