The Wedge Is Here To Stay
To say wedges are back in style isn’t exactly right because wedges have never really gone out of style. Created by Salavatore Ferragamo in 1936, the wedge grew in popularity in the early ‘40s. Depicting casual elegance and a classic cinema glamour, wedges are still incredibly popular today – particularly amongst today’s contemporary Rockabilly scene. The wedge proudly possesses a lovely blend of retro kitsch and contemporary styling, where a form-fitting leopard dress and sky high black wedges could just as easily be seen in the 1950s, as today.
In general, wedges are far easier to walk in than most other heels, but they do take a little getting used to because the higher the platform and angle the further you are from the ground. This may sound simplistic but it’s a good reminder to take your time when walking up or down stairs or taking curbs until you’re familiar with the shoes.
Of the classic wedge styles the cork heel is probably the most notable – followed by heels covered in twine and fabric, as well as heels made of rubber and plastic. Heels can range in thickness but the heel must run the entire length and width of the sole to be considered a proper wedge. As for straps, some wedges are slingbacks, others are slip ons and some have ties, straps or chords that wind multiple times around the ankle.
Whatever style or colour you choose, have confidence that the wedge is flattering to all. It is also stylish and versatile, and often far more comfortable and useful than most other heels.

Banksy is a magnificently talented graffiti artist, born and raised in Bristol, London. Banksy is the pseudonym of this talented man, his identity remains unknown. Although it has been suggested that his real name may be Robin Gunningham, no one really knows for sure. Banksy was trained to be a butcher, but changed his direction towards the artistic world in the late 1980s. His style is notably similar to the artist Blek le Rat, by the use of his stenciling technique.
Although Banksy is usually famed for his works in graffiti, he has many famous art pieces as well. Banksy’s work has an edge of dark humor, and usually critiques man’s faults, such as: greed, poverty, hypocrisy, boredom, despair, absurdity, and alienation. When asked what Banksy’s impression of the world was, he stated, ” Sometimes I feel so sick at the world, I can’t even finish my second piece of pie.” His messages are generally directed at anti-war, anti-capitalism, and anti-establishment, with the subjects often being rats, monkeys, policemen, soldiers, children, and the elderly.
There are so many Banksy prints that affect mankind in so many ways. In fact, the phrase “the Banksy effect” is becoming more known each and everyday. Even Christina Aguilera found herself under this spell. She purchased an original of Queen Victoria portrayed as a lesbian. Many however, still find his works to be quite controversial. Governments try everyday to have his graffiti arts removed. Only time will tell which pieces of art he has kindly shared with us will remain.

Going out, to go to a club, a pub or a bar, or even just to hang out with friends or go to a private party, has become a common concept in modern society, for all ages, but especially for teenagers and young adults. There are many things that are common around the World when it comes to going out. Drinking is a large part of it, for better or worse, and both soft drinks and alcoholic drinks companies take full advantage if this and include it in their adverts and use nightclubs and bars as vehicles for their marketing campaigns. The music industry is also both an important part of the night culture and something that uses it in their favor. Not only with concerts and live music, but also with whole music styles or, in some cases, whole record companies that aim at making music exclusively for nighttime parties. And not just that: dance music, with all it’s different styles and sub-genres, is traditionally tied with clubs, Djs and an entire party culture, with spiritual headquarters in Ibiza, and with ramifications all over the world, and that is also accompanied by specific media and celebrities that endorse the partying, the clubs and the lifestyle.
But these aren’t the only industries that thrive with the club culture. The fashion and clothing industry also has its finger on the pulse of the young party people. You hear kids, especially girls, talking about what they are planning to wear when going out, and clothes that they specifically buy for it, like going out tops, shoes, pants – with style, color and accessories that follow the latest trends. But men’s fashion is also swayed by the club scene. It used to be relatively easy for a man to go in a club, no matter what he was wearing, and there was more of a tradition of women dressing up. But nowadays men are in as much pressure to looking good as women are.
This industry has lead to a lot of pressure for people to wear the latest fashion when going out, and that doesn’t always come cheap. Fortunately, the online market can help solve this problem. You can buy men’s clothes and women’s dresses from Very.co.uk, for example, and it will be much cheaper than buying the same items in a brick and mortar shop. This will help you look better for less money, something that is sure to make people happy.
